Upward Sports

Upward Sports is a Christian sports ministry in Spartanburg, S.C. Upward began with a church-based basketball program that has been greatly blessed as a resource for reaching American communities for Christ—impacting the young players, parents and families. With years of experience, Upward Sports has many resources to offer churches as they establish sports leagues to reach out to communities.


The special rules for Upward Soccer exist to recognize that Every Child Is A Winner by promoting the following:


  • Character—to help every child grow as Jesus did—spiritually, physically, mentally and socially
  • Self-Esteem—to help every child grow in their understanding and enjoyment of sports


Since 2009, Upward Sports has observed and responded to the increasing popularity of soccer—both in the U.S. and internationally. In addition to basketball, many churches also are now starting Upward soccer programs, with a strong emphasis on evangelism, encouragement, sportsmanship and skills enhancement.


With the international popularity of soccer, Upward Sports is expanding its ministry outside the U.S., and offers excellent training, resources and on-going support to Christian churches in other countries who commit to establishing Upward Soccer leagues. Upward's international division has been a valuable strategic partner in launching and guiding KSA's Upward Rwanda ministry.

The purpose of Upward Sports Ministries is to fulfill God's vision that He planned long ago by promoting:

  1. Salvation-To share the love of Jesus Chirst with everyone involved in an Upward ministry
  2. Character-To help every child grow as Jesus did - spiritually, physically, mentally, and socially
  3. Self-Esteem-To help every child grow in their understanding and enjoyment of sports

To achieve our mission with a Christlike attitude, we are committed to:

  • Using ever-changing ways to share a never changing message
  • Promoting and protecting the mission of Upward through sound stewardship of all resources.
  • Working together as a unified team to be a first-class, organized, detailed, evangelistic ministry
  • Always viewing conflicts as ministry opportunities
  • Reaching beyond denominational and cultural boundaries to encourage Kingdom Growth
  • Developing participants to share the love of Christ in and beyond Upward
